Our History

Edgar W. Boldt, the third of six generations of the Boldt family, graduated from the University of Minnesota in Mortuary Science in 1926 and established the Boldt Funeral Home in Faribault.

In the beginning, Edgar would prepare and conduct visitations in the parlor of families’ homes. In 1941, Edgar built the first building in Faribault exclusively for funeral services.

Edgar was joined by his son, David E. Boldt, in 1953 after he followed in his father’s footsteps, also graduating from the University of Minnesota’s Mortuary Science program. Edgar continued to be active in funeral service until his passing in October 1980.

David was joined in service by his son, Scott E. Boldt, in the summer of 1981. In the mid-80’s, the Boldt Funeral Home purchased the Gill Funeral Home, Morristown, and renamed it to Gill-Boldt Funeral Home. In 1989, the Boldt Funeral Home relocated to 300 Prairie Avenue S.W., Faribault, offering the first crematory in Rice County, handicap access to all, ample parking, and a fully developed interior building to meet families’ needs.

David continued to be involved in the funeral home operations until his death in 2020.

Scott and his wife, Kari (Saufferer) Boldt, continue to own and operate the family owned funeral home along with licensed assistants of Jon Weng and Rachel Bakken, and also with funeral assistance of Darrell Stoltz, Jan Gora, Alisha Hildebrandt, Terry & Susan Peterson, and Leif Crooks.
