Obituary for Dean Donald Schuenke

Dean Donald Schuenke was born to Laurena and Albert Schuenke on May 26, 1938 in Faribault, Minn. He had four older siblings: Norman, Millie, Marlys, and Albert. His working career began early: in the candy/popcorn kitchen at the Olympia Cafe in Faribault, where Dean hired on as a seventh-grader and continued through high school. He met his future wife of 59 years, Nancy Boldt, when they were students at Faribault High School. They were married on May 31,1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault. Dean earned a bachelor's degree at Mankato State University, and subsequently taught business education at Willmar High School. After earning a master's degree at St. Cloud State University, he was chairman of the Department of Business Education at the vocational school in Willmar for 17 years. He and Nancy raised two children: Clara and Brent. After taking early retirement and moving to the Twin Cities, Dean worked briefly at the
Emerson plant, and then became Bruce Dayton's administrative assistant for the next 19 years. He and Nancy lived in Chanhassen prior to moving to Medina Ridge Condominiums in 2006. Dean enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, going to the casino, movies, reading, being a master at grocery store price comparisons and being a Papa! He officiated at granddaughter, Morgan Seashore's wedding to Alex Holmberg on Feb. 10, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Millie and brother, Norman. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Clara (Jay) Echtenkamp of Medina; son, Brent (Janelle) of Willmar; grandchildren, Morgan (Alex) Holmberg of Minnetonka, Serena Seashore of Medina, and Reese and Rachel Schuenke of Willmar; sister, Marlys Van Thomme of Faribault; and brother, Albert (Darlene) Schuenke of Faribault.
