Things To Know About Preplanning:

There are many reasons to consider preplanning your funeral.  The most important one is that alleviates much of the pressure from your survivors of making decisions under difficult circumstances.  Prearrangements also let you choose exactly how you want to be memorialized and allows for personal preferences in all aspects of the funeral service.  Remember, there is no rushing or pressure to make a hasty decision in preplanning a funeral. You have time to review all the options and think about the specific items that you want.

Here are some common questions you may have when considering preplanned arrangements:

1. Where does the prepaid money go?

Your money is placed in an account in your name.  You remain the owner of your funds, but often times the funds are made irrevocable in order to protect them from future medical expenses.

2. What happens to the interest earned by those funds?

Interest is added to your account to help offset inflation.  Any funds not utilized at the time of death, are returned to your estate.

3. What options do I have in paying for the arrangements?

You may opt to prepay the whole amount or just a portion.  Payment plans are also available.

4. What if the funeral takes place in another state?

Your funds are transferable to a funeral home in that state.
