Irma Louise Ahlman, the daughter of Vernon and Dora (Krause) Schmidtke was born on January 31, 1947, in Morristown, MN.  She attended Trinity Lutheran School in North Morristown and later, Morristown High School where she graduated in 1965.  Following graduation, she was employed at Herter’s in Waseca and Olympia Restaurant in Faribault.

In 1965 she captured the heart of Larry Ahlman.  They married at Trinity Lutheran Church, North Morristown on July 22, 1966, followed by one of the last barn dances and chiveries in Rice County.  The young couple then took over Ahlman’s Gun Shop, a business started by Larry’s father in 1943.  They worked together in the business until 2002 when the onset of Irma’s illness occurred.

Irma’s hobbies included shopping, baking, playing piano, card games and trap shooting.   She was also a skilled ping-pong player.  She enjoyed travel, especially cruises and traveled with Larry to numerous foreign countries.   Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Irma is survived by her husband, Larry, of Morristown; three children, Rachael (and John) Howe of Rochester, Mike (and Paula) Ahlman and Ben (and April) Ahlman of Morristown; one brother, Larry Schmidtke of Faribault; one sister, Sue (Schmidtke) Sell of Morristown; eight grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Brian, who died in infancy, her parents Vernon & Dora Schmidtke and a brother, Tom Schmidtke.

Memories

I graduated with Irma from Morristown High School in 1965. I remember Irma as a quiet, humble, sincere and unpretentious person. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss and for all the years of sadness you surely must have had to endure. Our Christian faith gives all of us hope that some day all of the sadness will be erased and replaced with joy.

Memories

Bob and I reach out with sympathy to Irma's family and friends. Irma was very special to me because I was a babysitter for the Schmidtke family when I was in high school. I treasure the memories of those happy days. May we all find comfort in knowing that now the burdens of Irma's life have passed away and all the joys of heaven have arrived for her. With Christian consolation and hope to all, Alice Kratt Smith
