Clarence R. Spitzack, age 85, of Faribault and formerly of Morristown, died on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at St. Lucas Care Center, Faribault.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault, on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Steven J. Kuehne officiating. Interment will be at Concordia Cemetery, North Morristown with military rites provided by the American Legion Post 149, Morristown.
Visitation will be held in the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Friday, April 9, 2010 from 4 to 7 p.m. and also at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
Clarence R., the son of Emil and Meta (Saemrow) Spitzack, was born on September 6, 1924 in Morristown Township. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, which he did not hesitate sharing with those around him. He was a Bible class teacher for high school youth at his church. After helping on the family farm at Morristown, he served in WWII with the United States Army Radio Corps in Germany, sending and receiving messages with Morse Code. Clarence married Helen M. Naumann on May 2, 1952 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Morristown. He worked on the family farm and in 1954 he became the accountant and office manager at the Morristown Creamery, then at Four County Ag, Faribault for 38 years.
Clarence played trumpet with the "Shades of Blue" band of Waterville, the Morristown City Band, for church services, and he organized a small band of family and friends. Dixieland jazz was a favorite of his. He was once a member of the Faribault Barbershop Chorus, community choirs, and sang in the church choir for 70 years.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; four children, James T. (and Nancy) Spitzack of Milwaukee, Jonathan P. Spitzack of Brooklyn Center, Rebecca H. Spitzack of Faribault and Mark J. Spitzack of Minneapolis; three granddaughters, Sarah (and Scott) Gustafson of Waukesha, WI, Laura (and Nicholas) Jusarda of Englewood, CO and Amy Spitzack (and fiance, Sam Henke) of Milwaukee, WI; one great grandson, Caden Gustafson; two sisters, Viola (and Kenneth) O’Brien of Plantation, FL and Delna Spitzack of Faribault; two nephews, Philip Ahrens and Benjamin (and Kim) Ahrens; and three great nieces, Eliza Ahrens, Claire and Grace Ahrens.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Luella Ahrens and Doris Powers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Lutheran Hour Ministry, Cannon Valley Lutheran High School, Morristown or Faribault Area Hospice.
