Joan
Helen Moede Schreiber, 83, of Faribault, died at her home, Thursday, October
22nd.
A celebration of life service will be held November 7th
at 2:00 p.m. at Hope United Methodist Church, 3166 E. 197th St., Faribault.
Visitation will be Friday, November 6th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m at Hope UMC.
Joan Moede Schreiber, the daughter of Rev. E. G. Louis
and Florence (Mueller) Moede was born December 17, 1925 in St. Paul, MN.
She attended, graduated, and became a teacher at
the School of Religion at St. Mary’s Hall in Faribault. She ran the first
State licensed preschool; East Side Preschool Nursery in Faribault. She was
the director of Horstman Memorial Nursery School. She taught preschool from
1951-1977. Joan was the Director of Children’s Work for the
Evangelical/United Brethren Church in the State of MN. She traveled to
various churches throughout MN and the U.S. teaching workshops on how to
creatively teach Religious education to children.
Joan was elected to the school board of School
District 656 in 1974 where she was a member for 15 years and chairman for 1
year. She worked on publicity for the school board and created the T.I.P.S.
(Taxpayers’ Information - Public Service) Newspaper. She was an active
member of Hope UMC teaching Sunday School, helping with the after school
program, sang in the adult choir, and volunteering for various projects.
Joan and her husband, Lyle, were the second
sponsors for the Theth family, Faribault, when they arrived to the U.S. in
the Winter of 1979. The Schreiber’s were honored with the Service to Mankind
award from the Sertoma Club in 1995.
Joan is survived by her son, Eric and daughter,
Cindi, her Sister-in-Law, Carol Moede and her nephews, Richard and James
(Jessica) Moede, her Sponsored family, the Theth’s, and some cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, an aunt,
Lydia Mueller, a baby sister, Jean Marianne, a brother, John Moede, and her
husband Lyle Schreiber.
