   George Henry Van Ryn, age 69, Faribault, died on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Owatonna Hospice House.
   Memorial services will be held in the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 3 p.m. with veteran military rites provided by the Central Veterans Association.
   A memorial visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Thursday in the Boldt Funeral Home.
   George, the son of George Mark and Yvonne Marie (Felix) Van Ryn was born on September 9, 1939 in Faribault. He retired from U. S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after 21 years of service. On November 21, 1987 he married Grace Grems in Faribault.
   He is survived by his wife, Grace; seven children, Lori (and Billy) Hanson of Blue Earth, Lisa (and special friend, Brian) Passante of Blue Earth, James (and special friend, Rhianna) Van Ryn of Junction City, Oregon, Tim (and special friend, Laurie) Grems of Owatonna, Tom (and Deb) Grems of Owatonna, Tammy Grems of Goodyear, Arizona, Troy (and Michelle) Grems of Owatonna; 14 grandchildren, Joe and Alex Grems, Cody Grems, Kelly Grems, Kyra, Connor and Carson Grems, Brian and Danielle Hanson, Joey and Carly Passante, Andre Lee, Zia and Henry Van Ryn; ten siblings, Bill (and Mary) Van Ryn of Faribault, Gerald (and Donna) Van Ryn of Faribault, Nancy (and Russ) Baartz of Savage, Mary Rasmussen of Northfield, Bob (and Kathy) Jeanes of Faribault, Rick (and Angel) Jeanes of Faribault, Marcia (and Dan) Stublaski of Apple Valley, Kim Jeanes of Faribault, Shelley Jeans of Faribault and Troy (and Chris) Jeanes of Faribault.

Memories

It was very sad to hear about the passing of George. I remember the visits he made to my parents home in Kirkland while he was stationed in Bremerton. I enjoyed hearing about the Navy and Minnesota and my dad was always excited when he could visit and talk about family and what everyone was doing and their future plans. He will be remembered in my prayers and in my thoughts. Love to all, Ron Van Ryn

Memories

Sorry to hear about George Van Ryn, I didn't know he had been ill and I hope it wasn't a lengthy illness. I was a teenager when he was stationed in Bremerton and I remember him coming over to visit on Sunday afternoons with his two pretty young daughters (who are now grown women). The last time I saw him was at the Van Ryn reunion a few years ago at the Elks Club in Faribault. We are thinking of you all and you are in our prayers. Love, Dennis, Jane, Molly, and Emma Van Ryn

Dear Grace and Family, Even though we haven't met, we feel we know you very well. Our son Derek Strohschein dates Kelly and she has told us all about you - Grandma Grace and Grandpa George...the memories, good times, love and how close she is with you. Living next door to the Jeanes family when i was little, I have many memories of George too many to mention. He was great man and very special to me. May he rest in peace and his soul sent in to heaven. God bless you George

Memories

George was one of my heroes growing up. His dad held a special place in my mom's family and George's service in the Navy followed that tradition. I loved hearing George talk about where the best smoked salmon could be found and his encounter with JFK. We will miss you George.
