Obituary For Millard R. Meyers

Millard R. Meyers, age 90, of Morristown, died Friday, July 24, 2009 at the Plum House, Morristown.
Funeral services will be at Peace United Methodist Church, Morristown on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Elden Eklund officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Morristown.

Visitation will be at The Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. and also at the church for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Millard Richard, the son of Richard Daws and Lucy May (Thorpe) Meyers was born March 8, 1919 at Belfield, ND. As a teenager he worked at Theodore Roosevelt National Park with the CCC. After the death of his mother in the late 1930’s, he moved with his father and sister to Morristown to live near his family. He graduated from Morristown High School and attended the University of Minnesota. He married Fern Lucille Brakke on August 15, 1943 at the Rochester Methodist Church followed by a reception at the Brakke farm. She preceded him in death on August 9, 2004. Millard was the owner of Meyers & Sons Construction, later along with his wife, owned and operated Camp Maiden Rock for many years. He was a member of the Faribault Chamber of Commerce, a caucus leader for the State Republican Party, a leader of his church and was an active volunteer in the community. He was honored as the Grand Marshal of the Dam Days Celebration.

He is survived by five children, Judith (and Allan) Meyers Altobell of St. Paul, Nancy (and Steven) Meyers Bechtold of Sioux Falls, SD, Randy (and Susie) Meyers of Morristown, John (and Karla) Meyers of Morristown, and Deidre (and John) Meyers Wagener of Kasson; nine grandchildren, Brooke, Katie, Nicole, JoEllen, Laura, Ryan, Derek, Ross and Lars, 11 great grandchildren, Randolph, Andre, Vincent, Mira, Zavier, Reed, Graham, Seth, Amelia, Francis and Isabel.

Millard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fern, and one sister Mavis Meyers; and one son, Noel.
