         Gretchen Beneke Melgaard, age 88, of Faribault, died on Friday, May 22, 2009 at her home.
         Services will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the First English Lutheran Church, Faribault with the Reverend Richard L. Jorgensen, officiating.  Interment will be held at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault.
         Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault on Monday, May 25, 2009 from 2 to 4 p.m. and also at the church for one half hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
         Gretchen, the daughter of Herman J. and Huldah (Schmidtke) Beneke was born on June 6, 1920 in Faribault.  She graduated from Faribault High School in 1938 and served in W. W. II as a WAC. She married Arthur Melgaard in 1947 and he preceded her in death 1988.
         She is survived by three children, Richard (and Phyllis) of Arlington, TX, Carol (and William) Fish of Prior Lake and Nancy (and Steve) Modderman of Apple Valley; four grandchildren.
         She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, two brothers, Martin and Luther Beneke; one sister, Ada Virgo.
