Dave, I want to thank you and Lois for your wonderful friendship with my parents, Bob and Larene Kerr. What a joy for them to have two "granddaughters" living right next door. Those of us living far away always new the latest fun and merriment from the Luecke household. I know Dave and my Dad are together above us having a discussion about kids, lawns and life in general. How fortunate we are to have them watching over us. With much love to Lois, Emily and Amanda, Kathleen M.
It's been nearly 23 years since the Schreiner Family first got to know the Luecke family. There was only 1 child per family at that time although it wasn't long before we each added a second- all girls. There are many memories primarily focussed on helping raise 4 girls, esp. in those early years. It's interesting that when I look back at the pictures taken over the years, you were usually in the background- quiet but present. Watchful, supportive, loving; never wanting to draw any attention to yourself. I remember great times in Farmington! The swing set the girls spent hours on (that you made). The huge piles of leaves they loved to jump in- that you raked. The swimming pool that was large enough for them to acutally swim in that I know was not fun to put up and maintain. The foil wrapped pennies hidden in the basement for birthday parties in places only you could reach! You were a wonderful father and grandfather. What a role model for a young boy. I remember you enjoying classical music and you introduced me to Garrison Keillor and the Prairie Home Companion Saturday afternoon radio show. I must admit, coming from New York, it took me awhile to understand the stories- but I know you did, and enjoyed them. You were serious, but had a sense of humor. You were tolerant. How many hours did you entertain the girls while Lois and I shopped at garage sales and craft fairs or worked at the Dakota County Fair? You loved your job, your family, and you especially loved Lois. You 2 were born a couple. The relationship you shared is a treasure rarely found. You will be greatly missed, but somehow I know, that just like those pictures from years past, your presence will be known. Quiet, watchful, and especially loving.
