Sending heartfelt sympathies to Ray's family and friends. Some of the old timers here still have fond interesting stories about Ray. We all know him through our annual Christmas party at the Cherokee Sirloin Room. He was always so generous providing a case of wine every year, which was a wonderful treat. We will miss him.
My memories of Ray go back to the mid sixties at MN/DOT although it was Minn Hwy Dept back then. Ray was a design engineer designing drainage tunnels and I was a new kid on the block. I never worked directly for Ray but coordinated many projects with him through my work in Hydraulics over the years. He was always a real gentleman and just a nice guy to be around. I talked with him a few times after he retired to Welch but never got down there to see him. My heartfelt condolence to his family.
I did'nt know Ray but worked with Arline at The Burlington Northen RR and kind of lost track when she retired to the Vineyard. Ray may have worked with my wife Louise as she retired from MNDOT also. Our sympathies on your loss.
I have wonderful memories of my favorite Uncle Ray. They go back a 'few years' to when I was little and I thought I wanted to help Uncle Ray feed the chickens at Grandma & Grandpa's house, so he let me go with him, if my memory serves me right I wasn't very big, because it seems the chickens were as tall as I was...it probably took two minutes for me to realize that this was not a good idea as the chickens were pecking at my feeet and legs and I'm sureI must have been screaming to the top of my lungs....when my uncle (the savior) scooped me up and put me on the other side of the fence...do you know I still don't like to be around a bunch of chickens. He will always be the kindest, happiest, friendliest, most fun to know, smiliest, best looking, Uncle that anyone could ever have. Don't you know they are ALL still at the reunion party celebrating Uncle Ray's arrival in to heaven? Love and condolence to the entire family, special thoughts and prayers for AUNT SPIKE.
We'll always remember picking grapes and burying vines in the fall at Ray and Spike's place outside of Welch. Ray kept us on our toes in the vineyard, but also made sure we left with several bottles of the vintage at the end of the day! He always had a joke to tell, never let our glasses run dry, and always made us feel like part of the family. We have no doubt the party's already started in heaven! Mike & Ginny
