Howard Martin Hougan, 90, died at his home in Faribault, MN, on Wednesday,
September 19, 2007, surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 22, at 6:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive
Lutheran Church in Mankato, MN, with the funeral following at 7:00 p.m.  A
second service will be held on Monday, September 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy
Cross Lutheran Church in Madison, WI with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, Mineral Point Road in Madison,
WI.

Howard M. Hougan was born to Henry and Anna Hougan in Stoughton, WI.  Howard
was a retired Air Force Major, having served in the Pacific Theater during
World War II.  He married Ruby M. Holzhueter on January 1, 1946.  They were
blessed with four children: Victoria Anne Butterfield (Michael), Karen
Elizabeth Madson (Jim Bina), Kristi Marie Paterson (Richard) and Paul Howard
Hougan (Elizabeth).  His exemplary dedication to church, family and friends
was truly a witness.  In the words of one of his grandsons, ³Grandpa was a
family man, a patriot, a ball player, a writer, a craftsman, and a man of
God.  He may be gone, but the lessons he has taught us in these roles will
live on!²

Howard is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, four children and
spouses, 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two brothers (Don Hougan
and Oris Hougan).   He was preceded in death by two sisters (Ruth Sagen and
Elda Rynning), a brother (Arnold Hougan), and a son-in-law (Paul Madson).

Memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Bethany Lutheran
College, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, or Faribault Area Hospice.
