Melvin C. "Mel" Heyer
Melvin C. "Mel" Heyer, age 91, of Faribault, died on Saturday, April 5, 2008
at St. Lucas Care Center, Faribault.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran
Church, Faribault, on Thursday, April 10. 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with the
Reverend Steven J. Kuehne officiating. Interment will be at Meadow Ridge
Memorial Park, Faribault with military rites provided by the Central
Veterans Association.
Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral Home on
Wednesday, April 9, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. and also at the church on Thursday
for one hour prior to the service.
Melvin Carl Heyer, the son of Max and Alma (Wegner) Heyer, was born on April
4, 1917 in North Morristown. He attended German School and country school in
North Morristown. He worked at St. Mary's School, Faribault, until he was
called to serve his country from 1940 - 1945. When he returned to Faribault,
he worked at St. Mary's School until he became employed by the City of
Faribault, working at City Hall and retiring in 1984. Mel painted on his own
which he enjoyed very much and was also employed by Erickson Furniture of
Faribault. He married Mary Margaret Staley on June 11, 1947 at Trinity
Lutheran Church, North Morristown. They made their home in Faribault where
they lived their entire married life for 61 years. Mel was a devoted
husband, father and grandfather to his family and a dedicated member of
Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder and an usher. He spent
many hours working and painting when the new church was built. Mel was also
a leader in 4-H.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary; two
daughters, Ann (and Mark) Remold of Faribault and Judy (and Mark) McCorkell
of Eden Prairie; four grandchildren, Michelle and Eric Remold and Megan and
Max McCorkell; one brother, Martin (and Rita) Heyer of Austin; two sisters,
Mable Spitzack of Morristown and Arlene (and Kenneth) Edwards of Austin; one
sister in law, Eleanora Heyer of Faribault; and many nieces, nephews, other
relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one
brother, Raymond.
