THOMAS EDWARD WIEBLER

Tom
         Tom Wiebler, age 55, of Faribault, died on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
         Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Divine Mercy Catholic Church at Immaculate Conception, Faribault, on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 10:30 a.m.
         Memorial visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
         Thomas Edward, the son of Richard and Doris (Volrath) Wiebler, was born on June 5, 1953 in Davenport, IA.  He graduated from Assumption High School, Davenport, IA in 1971 and from Mankato State University in 1975.  He married Shannon Shields on June 24, 1978 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault.  Tom began working at Beltz Co. under Bob Bjork and later with Fred of Robinson Business Forms, who was instrumental in helping Tom start his own business, Wiebler Business Forms which he owned and operated for over 25 years.  Tom was a member of the Elks Club of Faribault, he helped start the fundraising for the Faribault Ice Arena, was a member and former board member of Faribault Country Club, was a youth baseball coach and a basketball coach for Bethlehem Academy.
         He is survived by his wife, Shannon; two sons, Troy Thomas (and fiancée, Sarah Grabanski) Wiebler and Taylor Thomas Wiebler, both of Minneapolis; his mother, Doris Wiebler of Davenport; two brothers, Rich (and Peggy) Wiebler  and Gary (and Marcia) Wiebler, all of Davenport; four sisters, Mary Ann (and Dan) Ewen of Davenport, Cyndee (and Stan) Boudreau of Davenport, Katie (and Rick) Hines of Apple Valley and Liz (and Marc) Nover of Owasso, MI; a sister in law, Janet Wiebler of Davenport; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. 
         He was preceded in death by his father, Richard, and one brother, Matthew James Wiebler.
         A special thank you to Tom’s doctor, Dr. Kris Drevlow and his oncologist, Dr. P.J. Flynn and nurses, Caroline and Julianna.
         In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to “Get Your Rear In Gear” a Cancer Awareness Walk. Please note “Wiebler’s Walkers” on the memo line.

Tom Wiebler is among the finest men I have ever known, or ever will know. With his quick wit, charm, intelligence and infectious smile, he brought people together. He made us all see good in each other. He made friends out of people who might not otherwise be friends. He took his love and devotion to his family and expressed it to all of us, making us all feel like a family member that he would do anything for. He was, and is, the best of friends. We could all do well to emulate Tom Wiebler. He will be deeply missed by all of us who loved him dearly. He will be fondly remembered until we meet again. God bless the entire Wiebler family.

Tom is at the source of a particularly good memory: That being the time he got on stage in Fort Madison (late in the evening following a Wiebler-family reunion in the mid or late 80's)and out-performed the local band with his comedy routine; he was into it, and the crowd (many of whom were named Wiebler or otherwise associated) was well entertained. Coming back from break, the band was uncertain what to do upon seeing that Tom had taken over in their absence. The leader (Chas) of the band (the Channel Cats) had to literally pull the microphone out of Tom's hands to get him off the stage. Tom had a talent. May he rest in peace. Best wishes to Tom's family; and to Aunt Doris and the Davenport clan.

When I was a child, Tom and I attended Saturday catechism class together in Davenport. This was the era of the old church .....priests were often feared, and the nuns always were! It was a hugh class and one day Tom and I were seated close together and he was talking to me during a presentation by a priest. Always more of a risk taker than me, I was half listening to him and half listening to the priest. We were in the back of the class with a blackboard next to our heads. I vaguely recall the drone of the priest's lecture having stopped. Moments later a stiok of chalk exploded on the blackboard inches from our heads. Needless to say we were very attentive the rest of that day! Tom and I were born just weeks apart in the same year. He,I, and David Mangels have a special blood affinity for having been born in the same six week period. I have nothing but found memories of him and the Volrath/Wieblers in general. Good bless the entire family, you remain in my prayers, and try to remember all the great stories of Tom!
