Orville F. Smuda, age 87, of Faribault, died
on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Homestead Hospice, Owatonna.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday,
April 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Mankato, with
the Reverend John J. Petersen officiating. Interment will be at Maple
Lawn Cemetery, Faribault with veteran military rites provided by Central
Veterans Association, Faribault.
Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral
Home, Faribault, on Friday, April 17, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. and also at
the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
Orville Frank, the son of Edwin A. and
Elsie (Glende) Smuda, was born on March 19, 1922 in Faribault. He
graduated from Faribault High School in 1940 and served in the US Army,
Ordinance Division during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He married Alice
Krenz on January 14, 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault. Upon his
return from the service, he was employed at several auto dealers in
Faribault and Northfield. He served on the Faribault City Council from
1966-1970. He owned and operated R&S Sporting Goods in Faribault from
1963 until retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; one
daughter, Linda (and Wally) Kopisca of Shakopee; one son, the Reverend
Thomas (& Diane) Smuda of Deshler, OH; eight grandchildren, Robert Prchal,
Sherry (and Craig) Wenisch, Pamela (and Chad) LaVone, Heather Pioske,
Sarah Smuda, Aaron Smuda, Jesse Smuda and Mary Smuda; two great
grandchildren, Avery and Tyler Wenisch; three siblings, Harry (and Ann)
Smuda of Rice Lake, WI, Harriet (and Roland) Lippert of Faribault and
Erwin (and Jan) Smuda of Canton, OH; and several nieces, nephews and other
relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
one son, James Smuda; and a sister and brother in law, Margaret and Alfred
Krenz.
