Helen June (Mrs. John) Manley, age 79, of Faribault, died on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at St. Lucas Care Center, Faribault.

         Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Divine Mercy Catholic Church at Sacred Heart, Faribault, on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Fernando Ortega officiating.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Faribault.
         Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Friday, January 23rd from 4 to 7 p.m. and also at the church for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.  Parish prayers will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Reverend C. J. Haberman, officiating.

Helen June, the daughter of Elmer and Tulah (Lay) Elsrode was born on July 11, 1929, in Kansas City, Kansas.  She married John R. Manley on April 20, 1950, and he preceded her in death in 1974.  She was employed by Mealey’s Restaurant and Maid Rite of Faribault and Sheldahl of Northfield.

She is survived by four children, Helen (and Bob) Jandro of Faribault, Pam Gramse of Faribault, Jane Dailey of Minneapolis and John (and Lorraine Mora) Manley of San Francisco, CA; six grandchildren, Shauna Lang, Matthew (and Jessica Treat) Lang, Jenni (and Zack) Pederson, Joslynn Gramse, Justin Dailey and Jenna Dailey; two great grandchildren, Gavin and Griffin Snyder; one sister, Betty Fuller of Kansas City, Kansas; and two brothers, Eugene Elsrode of Prairie Village, Kansas, and Jack Elsrode of Harrison, Arkansas.

         She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and one brother, Miles Elsrode.

Helen and family: I am so sorry for your loss. I have known your mother most of my life. When I was 13, my mother,Betty Dierking, made me go to work with her out at Mealey's. That is when I first met your mother. It was an aweful job but your mother made it fun. Helen, I think you started working there shortly after that. I can remember some of the customers coming in and asking if Helen was working (especially the cops). They were disappointed if she was off. Again, I am sorry for your loss. Nancy Westerhouse

Memories

I remember riding the train from Kansas to visit you guys in Minnesota. Whenever I wanted to ask Aunt Helen something I'd begin by saying, "Hey You" and Aunt Helen would always say "My name is not 'Hey You'". I loved your mom's spaghetti and staying the night at your house, because your mom let us do more stuff. She will be missed and always loved. Jackie

Helen and Pam...I am truly sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. Helen and my mother were best of friends and loved each other dearly. I remember Helen as if it were yesterday, even though I have been away from Minnesota for 25 years. Helen always had a smile and a joke for me whenever she came over to our house. Jane and family: Although I didn't know your mother/grandmother well there was something in her eyes that I liked. Maybe it was a "fiestiness" I was reading I'm not sure,but it was there. I'm grateful that I got to talk with her from time to time. We will see you Friday. Take care. Joe Basil

Helen and my Mother, Marian Borgstahl, were very good friends from the time their husbands were in the service until the two women were in the same apartment complex at retirement. We send our deepest sympathies to Helen's family, I know you will miss her, she was a great gal.

We're so sorry to hear about Helen, she and my mother Marion were good buddies. My mom always spoke fondly of Helen and all the good times they had together.
